Alex's Bio
Salve!
My name is Alex B Shaw, an Arizona native with a penchant for everything science. Growing up in Arizona enabled me to love the harsh biosphere of the desert, as well as the starry night sky. As a young man, I was immediately fascinated with the unique animals and plants of the southwest and how and why they looked different from other textbook creatures and flora. The desert sets itself aside from other ecosystems as a remarkably demanding space, filled with adaptive life forms that survive and thrive in an extreme climate. Even then, I knew I was in love with the nature of things and would spend the rest of my life exploring that side of myself and this fascinating place we call Earth.
When I'm not tending to my (100 indoor plants), I'm most likely doing homework or spending time at my favorite yoga studio. I enjoy cultivating my own exotic species, doing yard work, and reading. I try and read every day, but I also enjoy painting and writing when I can. I believe there to be so much beauty in the creative process, and although they may seem to be the polar opposite, I find science and art to be critically interwoven; art is the science of creation and self-expression, and science is the art of process and theory.
I know I want to make a positive impact, environmentally and otherwise. I enjoy the details of a thing but also trust in a more encompassing process that guides us. I cherish my sobriety, as well as my plant-based diet. Keeping my carbon footprint small is especially important to me, and I'm always up for sharing environmental ideals; helping one another be better. If you just take the time to listen, I believe there's always something to be learned. Listening and absorbing to apply is a lifelong practice that I hope prevails in perpetuity. When in doubt, I just remember that we are stardust, floating on stardust, in a sea of stardust! Enjoy the moment!
